Overview

Tailored Consulting, founded and led by Micah Lorenc, specializes in executive coaching, culture consulting, and leadership development. In his work with leadership teams, Micah noticed a recurring challenge that often led to turnover and frustration: cultural fit.

Even when a candidate looks great on paper, misalignment with company culture can be hard to spot until after they’re hired. This disconnect can lead to early departures, costly replacements, or lingering tension that affects entire teams.

Micah hired HQ to build CultureLab, a tool that helps employers and candidates assess cultural alignment during the hiring process.

Automating the workflow

Prior to working with HQ, Micah had manually built early prototypes of CultureLab using tools like Google Sheets, but in order to be more productive in his own work and improve the user experience for everyone involved, he wanted to automate the process.

HQ built a proof of concept that would allow users to conduct culture assessments and generate hiring reports without requiring much effort on their part.

I needed an interface that would allow them to enter very little information to kick off the process, and I needed help designing what the actual report would look like. There was a lot of UI development just creating the look and feel of what the user experience would look like.

The Results

  • Successful MVP launch: The CultureLab platform was completed within budget and on time, allowing Micah to test it with real customers.
  • Positive user feedback: Early adopters appreciated the simplicity and effectiveness of the assessments.
  • Seamless transition to internal development: When Micah brought on a CTO, they were impressed with the quality of HQ’s code, which made further development smooth.

If I didn't have a resource to build out that prototype for me at the beginning, I'm not sure it would be where it is today. Otherwise, it would have fizzled and my homemade prototypes just would never have gotten anywhere on their own.
